6. WebMoney |
|
 |
WebMoney is a rather complex system of electronic money transfers and payments which you will most likely run into if you conduct business with organisations based in eastern european countries (ex USSR).
In order to become a registered user, you will have to browse to the welcome page and from there to complete a procedure consisting of two steps. The site does not currently support many languages, it is only available in Russian and of course, in English. The first step you need to take is the usual one, registering with the system by entering your personal details and making a new account. Having completed this first step, all that is left to be done is to download and install the software with which you perform payments. This is a major difference between WebMoney and the other systems we have reviewed. |
Here the potential user has two choices: either to download and install the stand-alone software, or to download and install the necessary software that will enable him to perform transactions using his web browser. When installed, the software creates a number of "virtual purses", each of which is designated to perform transactions using a specific currency. Hence, there is a purse for $, for €, one for Russian Rubles and others for some eastern european country currencies. If you think that some of these purses are of no use to you, you can delete them. What you need to remember though, is that you can transfer money between purses of the same currency. Depending on the currency, you can credit each purse with money with a variety of ways, but the common way for all purses is by wire transfer, while the same thing applies to withdrawals. With this exception, WebMoney has exactly the same functionality with the rest of the systems we reviewed in this section.
As a conclusion we should say that WebMoney is a kind of complex and without extended use system, and it is more likely to prefer to use one of the more popular systems. In the case though where you are dealing with businesses based in eastern european coutries, there is a big chance you will have to use it.
Credit Cards: Only some prepaid ones. Also, wire transfers and some exchange services |
